Online Click Counter
An online click counter is a button you press to add one to a running total, doing the job of a handheld thumb clicker without the device. This one adds what the metal clicker cannot: undo for miscounts, several counters at once, any step size, and a total that survives closing the tab.

How to use the online click counter
Set up a click counter for a door count or a crowd count in under a minute.
Open the counter and name it
Type what you are counting into the name field, for example “In”. Naming matters as soon as you run more than one counter.
Add a second counter for people leaving
Press “+ New” and name it “Out”. Switch between the two from the counter list to keep a live occupancy figure.
Turn on focus mode for a big button
The focus mode button expands the counter to fill the screen and hides everything else, so the target is easy to hit without looking.
Count with the button, Space or the arrow keys
Tap the green + button, press Space, or use the Up arrow. On a phone, turn on vibration so you feel each registered press.
Undo a double count immediately
If two people pass at once and you tap twice, press Undo or Ctrl+Z. The click counter is the only kind that lets you take a click back.

Door and gate headcounts
Count people entering a venue, a shop or a place of worship. Run an “In” and an “Out” counter to know how many are inside right now.

Counting people in and out for a live occupancy figure
A single clicker only answers “how many arrived”. What a door supervisor usually needs is how many are inside now, which means two counts running together. Because this tool keeps unlimited counters, that takes about fifteen seconds to set up.
Create two counters
Name the first In and the second Out. Both appear in the counter list with their totals side by side.
Set a maximum on the In counter
Open “Min / max limits” and set the maximum to your venue capacity. The counter refuses to go past it and tells you when you are at the limit.
Read occupancy as In minus Out
Both totals are visible in the list at once, so the subtraction is the only mental arithmetic left, and it is the same sum a clicker board would use.
For a venue with several entrances, give each steward the page on their own phone with a counter named after their door, then use the copy button to send totals to whoever is aggregating them. Nothing syncs between devices, which is deliberate: no accounts, no server, and no data about your visitors leaving the phone it was counted on.
What experienced door counters do differently
Anyone can press a button. Counting a busy door accurately for three hours is a skill, and it has a technique.
Watch the threshold, not the faces
Pick a physical line and count anything crossing it. Looking at people makes you count people you recognise and miss people you do not.
Rotate every twenty minutes
Attention on a repetitive counting task degrades fast. Swap counters on a fixed schedule and record the total at each handover.
Two counters at a wide entrance
One person cannot reliably count a doorway wider than about two people. Split it on a pillar, a barrier or a floor marking, never on judgement.
Count out loud in fives under pressure
When a group comes through together, saying “five” aloud and pressing five times is more accurate than trying to count heads and press once.
Reconcile against a second source
Tickets, wristbands, bar covers. They will never match exactly, but a 30% gap tells you something is wrong with your method.

What is an online click counter?
It is a web page with a button that adds one to a total each time you press it, plus a display showing the running count. It does the same job as a handheld thumb clicker, without buying or carrying a device.
Is this the same as a tally counter?
Yes, they are two names for the same job. “Click counter” comes from the mechanical clicker and “tally counter” from paper tally sheets. If you prefer tally language, the tally counter page covers the same tool.
Can I count people in and out at the same time?
Yes. Create two counters, name one “In” and one “Out”, and switch between them from the list. Both totals stay visible together, so you always have a current occupancy figure.
Can I use the space bar to count?
Yes. Space, the Up arrow and the plus key all add one, so you can count without looking at the screen or aiming at a button. That is much faster than tapping when people are moving past quickly.
What happens if I click one too many times?
Press Undo or Ctrl+Z and the extra click is removed. A mechanical clicker has no undo at all, so a slip means either accepting the error or resetting and counting again.
Does it work as a person counter on a phone?
Yes. The buttons are sized for a thumb, focus mode makes the target fill the screen, and optional vibration confirms each press so you can keep watching the door rather than the phone.
Will I lose the count if my phone locks?
No. Every press is saved to your browser immediately, so locking the phone, switching apps or closing the tab does not lose the count. Reopen the page and the total is still there.
Is there a limit on how many clicks I can record?
Not in practice. The counter handles totals up to 9,007,199,254,740,991. Even counting continuously for years you would not approach it.
How many people can one person count accurately?
At a single-file entrance, a practised counter is reliable up to roughly 30 people a minute. Beyond that, or at any entrance wider than two people, accuracy drops sharply and you need a second counter.
Can I count with the screen off?
No, the page must be visible to receive taps. Turn on vibration so you get confirmation without looking, and use focus mode so the target fills the screen and can be hit without aiming.
What is the difference between a click counter and a click speed test?
A click counter has no timer and totals presses for as long as you need, which is what headcounts and stock takes require. A click speed test is timed and measures a rate in clicks per second.
Does it drain the battery during a long shift?
Very little. There is no video, no network activity after the page loads and no location access. Screen brightness will use far more power than the counter itself.
How does a click counter work?
Each press is registered as one event and added to a running total shown on screen. A mechanical clicker advances a geared number wheel; a browser counter runs a script that increments a stored value and redraws the display, then saves it to local storage.
Is there a free click counter app?
Several, on both app stores, and browser-based ones like this page that need no install at all. The practical advantage of a browser counter is that it works on a borrowed or work device where you cannot install software, and needs no account.
What is the difference between a click counter and a tally counter?
Nothing functional. "Click counter" comes from the handheld mechanical clicker and "tally counter" from paper tally sheets, but both mean a tool that adds one per press. Use whichever term fits your task; this tool covers both.
